The Taste of DeKalb hosted by the Kishwaukee Sunrise Rotary Club recently held on September 29 was a great success! The members of the Kishwaukee Sunrise Rotary extend their gratitude to the community for supporting this fun, family-friendly event at Van Buer Plaza in Downtown DeKalb immediately following the Corn Classic 10K/5K Race. The proceeds from this event went directly to support the Rotary’s Community Grant for Children, Youth, and Families. Grant funds are distributed to local organizations that have projects which positively impact the lives and well-being of children, youth, and families. This year’s grant recipients include the Camp Keesem, CASA, Family Service Agency, and the Pay It Forward House.
Our appreciation is extended to the City of DeKalb, the Corn Classic Race committee, and the food vendors including Fatty’s, Nina’s Tacos, Betty Jean’s Soul Food, Sycamore Country Store and Catering, St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Open Door Coffee Truck, The De Colores Ice Cream Truck, and Barb City Bagels who helped make the event possible.
We also appreciate the entertainers including: Back Country Roads, Joe Jencks, The Wild Blue Ukulele Orchestra, DeKalb High School Jazz Combo, TD Ryan, and Behind the Beat’s Productions; as well as, the Youth Services Bureau for providing fun activities for the children. A special thank you to Dave Miller of Back Country Roads for help with the sound stage throughout the event and the NIU student athletes who volunteered to help with the event set up and break down.
